But for more than sixty years, one family’s home – now a museum – has wowed visitors with its elaborate figurines and graceful architecture. The Christiana Figi House is one of Wilmington’s most popular tourist destinations, and for good reason.

Built in 1954 by the Figi family, the house is an excellent example of 1950s Italian design. The white stucco exterior and red tile roof are stunningly ornate, while the inside is meticulously decorated with over 1,000 figurines – many of them life-size – and elaborate mosaics. The collection includes everything from animals to biblical figures to famous Italians.

The Figi family’s restoration project began in the late 1990s and continues to this day. With the help of donations and volunteers, they’ve been able to restore many of the original details and decorations. Today, the Christiana Figi House is open to the public for tours Monday through Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re ever in the area.
